Souper Bowl!

Harvesters feeds close to 600 families every month.  Only $1.00 equals five meals, so every single dollar counts!

Rosemary and I are part of the Overland Park Reece and Nichols office located at 119th and Quivira.  In conjunction with the Super Bowl, our office is working with Harvesters to raise money so we are sponsoring a virtual food drive.  We would love your support and donation!

There is one catch!  Rosemary and I are part of the “Steelers” team and therefore we want to beat the “Packers” team!  It doesn’t have anything to do with who we think might actually will win or who we want to win the Super Bowl… we just chose a side and now we WANT TO WIN the fund-raising SOUPER BOWL!  Just choose “Steelers” when you get to that screen. We would love your help and Harvesters would too!!! So, if you would like to support Harvesters, please click here to make a donation.

Thanks!

Taste of the Crossroads 2010

Taste of the Crossroads takes place on  Sunday, September 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Freight House Parking Lot, located at 101 West 22nd Street, Kansas City, MO.  Have some fun sampling great food from local Crossroads District eateries; beverages will be available for purchase.  And while you’re sampling, enjoy live music from the Rumble Jets & Pedal Jets.  Taste of the Crossroads is a non-profit event designed to spark interest in the Crossroads District’s local businesses and restaurants.  Visit Taste of the Crossroads’ website for all the details.

NOTE:  Taste of the Crossroads was just started in 2009.  Currently, the money raised from tickets purchased will go to cover the cost of this event.  Any remaining funds will be set aside in a U.S. Bank  account and used to pay for the administrative costs of next year’s event.  When the year comes that income from ticket sales exceeds the costs incurred, Taste of the Crossroads will donate any additional proceeds to its local Harvesters.  If you bring a canned item for Harvesters, you will receive a raffle ticket for restaurant gift certificates.  If you purchase your ticket(s) online you will receive a free raffle ticket.  Additional raffle tickets may be purchased at the event at $1/per ticket.

Have fun tasting and be at the forefront of what hopefully will become a great benefit for Harvesters~  Rosemary

Fun at Harvesters!!!

Rosemary and I had so much fun volunteering at Harvesters yesterday. That is such an amazing place and only runs because of the 3,000-3,500 volunteers they get every single month.  We were in charge of bulk food.  We were making family size bags of baby carrots out of HUGE bins.  Along with our other volunteer friends, we helped to bag up 738 lbs of baby carrots!

Harvesters helps to feed over 66,000 people every single week.  If you would like to donate, volunteer or just learn more about Harvesters, check out their site here!

PS…If you volunteer you will get a rockin’ hair net like we did!!!

Help Harvesters Help School Children

More children than we know do not have enough to eat on a daily basis.  More than 101,000 children in Harvesters’ service area are enrolled in free and reduced-price school meals during the week, but what do these children eat on the weekends and during holidays and summer?  Harvesters, one of Betsy’s and my favorite organizations, is working to address this problem through its BackSnack program, which provides backpacks of food to low-income children for the weekend in order to combat weekend hunger.  The program creates a partnership between Harvesters, a participating school,  and a local corporate, civic,  or religious organization.  Click here to find out more about the program, all that it brings to a child’s life, and how you can help.
