Big Bad Pumpkin Derby & Canine Costume Contest at Shawnee Mission Park

There’s some weekend fun for your young (or young-at-heart!) coming up on Saturday, October 23, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Park.  Yes, it’s Shawnee Mission Park’s traditional fall Big Bad Pumpkin Derby race and Canine Costume Contest!  In addition to all the fun of the Derby and the Canine  Costume Contest, there will be hayrides, sidewalk mural paintings, and food vendors.  Admisson to this event is free, but there is a $25 fee to enter the Derby and a $5 fee to enter the Canine Costume Contest, and contestants must register to participate in these events (downloadable forms on website).  The Pumpkin Derby race runs from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., and the Canine Costume Contest begins at noon (sign-in for the Canine Costume event begins at 11:00 a.m.).  All the fun takes place in the parking lot of Shawnee Mission Park’s Theatre in the Park, located at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee.  For all the info, including registration forms and a schedule of events, visit this event’s page on the Park’s website.

Haunted Benjamin Ranch

Check out the Haunted Benjamin Ranch, open Fridays and Saturdays.  Gates open at 7pm and guests are welcomed into the Zombie Corral of Doom!  The Haunts  begin in other attractions at 8pm.  In case you didn’t know about the haunting of Benjamin Ranch…

When night falls, the ghosts of the Old West come back to haunt the Benjamin Ranch.  The animals become possessed.  Shadows are seen and strange sounds are heard.  Recently, several ranch hands have disappeared without a trace.  Those that are still around claim to have seen unexplained figures and feel as if they are being watched.

Halloween Fun and Spooks at Worlds of Fun

A Legendary Halloween at The Legends at Village West

The Legends at Village West is hosting a fun, safe, family-oriented Halloween celebration on Saturday, October 31, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  All A Legendary Halloween activities are free and open to children 12 and under.  Join the fun, from a bounce house and obstacle course to trick-or-treating at participating stores and restaurants to a halloweeen costume parade and contest!
